AGRICULTURE DEPARTMENT 

        The main objective of the Agriculture department is to disseminate the latest Agriculture technology to the farmers different production oriented scheme. The schemes taken up by Agriculture department during 2002-2003 and the achievements are as follows 

Technology mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture. 

It is an innovative holistic project introduced by Govt. of India for development of Horticulture in North East region.

(a)   Area Expansion. Under this programme, Black pepper - 5 hect, Areca nut- 10 hect, Turmeric- 5 hect, Rabi Vegetable - 10 hect were taken up. Till date 3.7750 lacs were paid to different beneficiaries of the district as grain-in-aid under this programme. 

(b) Agriculture Mechanisation. 

Under this scheme 4 Nos. of Power Tiller, 4 out of 10 nos. of allotted power tillers were distributed to different F.M.C's/ individual beneficiaries. Rs.2.16 lacs were paid to A.A.I.D.C. Ltd. Moreover 2 nos. of Community Tanks are being constructed at Katlicherra and South-Hailakandi Block with an assistance of Rs.1.00 lakh each.

(c) Integrated Pest management (I.P.M.) for Rabi Vegetable. 

Under I.P.M.(Horti.) of Technology Mission 120 No. Farmers were trained on I.P.M. of Rabi Vegetable of 4 nos.of F.M.C's covering 4 Development Block. The expenditure incurred was Rs.40,000.00 

(d) Training of Farmers.

40 nos.of Women Farmers of the district were trained at E.T.C., Boalipar.

2.  Assam Rural Infrastructure and Agril. Service Project (ARIASP).

The major activities during 2002-2003 under this project are as follows :

(i) 180 nos. of Executive member of 36 nos. registered F.M.C's were provided training for strengthening for working capacity of FMC.

(ii) 5 nos. of Tractors at 50% subsidy were distributed among 5 nos. of selected F.M.C's. 

(iii) One unit of Black Pepper of nursery under RMU is in progress in the district.

(3) MACRO MANAGEMENT

This is a centrally sponsored scheme. The major activities under this programme and achievement are :

(a) Training to farmers :

Target of farmers to be trained - 133 nos. 

Total Nos. of farmers trained   -  78  nos. ( 50 nos. of farmers at Mohakhal , F.T.S., 20 nos. at K.V.K., Arunachal)

Total expenditure incurred       - Rs. 50,700/- 

N.B. - Another 6 nos. of training camp on INM covering all the development block were conducted where all together 240 farmers were benefited.

(4) INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT  (IPM) :

The main objective of IPM was to creat  awareness on importance on organic farming. Achievement under this programme are as follows :

(i) 40 nos. of officers were trained on IPM of Kharif paddy to prepare one core group trainers. Total expenditure was Rs. 13,200/- 

(ii) 10 nos. of awareness camp on Kharif Paddy IPM were organized. Which covered 500 farmers. Total expenditure was Rs. 50,000/-

(iii) 5 nos. of 10 weeks F.F.S covering 150 nos. of farmers were trained at 5 nos. of FMCs of five different block. 

(iv) 5 nos. of followup visit of FFS were conducted. The expenditure were Rs. 10,000/-

(5) NATIONAL WATERSHED DEVELOPMENT PROJECT FOR RAINFED AREA (NWDPRA):

This is a centrally sponsored scheme. Under this scheme 5 nos. of project of the district have been handed over to 4 nos. of N.G.Os which are selected as P.I.A. for implementation. An amount of Rs. 1,79,000/- has been released to P.I.A.

(6) KRISHAN CREDIT CARD (KCC) :

Govt. of India has introduced this scheme through NABARD to involve Bank Institution in Agricultural Financial Assistance.

Total Nos. of KCC sponsored to different Bank - 2532 Nos.

Target fixed for distribution of KCC during 2002-2003 - 1827 Nos.

Total KCC distributed till 31-03-2003 --- 1832 Nos.

Integrated Wasteland Development Project.

Ashiali-Bakrihawar IWDP project started functioning in the district from 2000.The District Agricultural Department is functioning a P.I.A. Under this project 14 nos. of Water Shed Committees are constructed which cover 57 nos. of villages under Hailakandi and Algapur Development Blocks.  Till date 1.1786000 Crores is sanctioned under the project.  Out of this 1.1635289 is spent. The major achievement of the works by the Water Shed Committees are constructed of 210.nos. of Low Lift Irrigation type.   81 nos. of Firm Ponds, construction of  24 nos. of Check Dams, graded bund, afforestation of private and community land, decongestion of Jita River etc. Till date 50 nos. of Self Help Groups were also awarded financial benefit under the project.
